About

Oak Lawn Place Senior is the answer to finding affordable housing for seniors in North Texas, LGBTQ adults face specific obstacles. While progress has been made in Texas and the rest of middle America on social acceptance of their community, stigma and prejudice still exist, and finding welcoming senior housing is a challenge.

Estimated Budget

$23,000,000

Timeline

Dec 28, 2020 - To address the specific senior housing concerts of the LGBTQ community, Resource Center of North Texas has launched a $4 million capital fundraising campaign to build LGBTQ-friendly affordable senior housing in Dallas. The funds raised will contribute to a $23 million project to build an 84-unit building in Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood. The project is unique because it will be the second LGBTQ-friendly senior housing project in Texas.

Construction of the building is scheduled to begin in late 2021 with a projected opening date of 18 months after groundbreaking, Collins said. (Spectrum Local News)

Aug 30, 2021 - Developers are pushing ahead with plans for a much-needed Dallas housing project aimed at a growing population of LGBTQ seniors.

Called Oak Lawn Place, the 84-unit apartment community will pair developer Matthews Southwest with the Resource Center – a community organization that supports the LGBTQ community – and Volunteers of America to build the affordable housing project near Maple Avenue and Inwood Road. (Dallas News)
