Most students live on-campus at least their freshman year (if they aren't living with family). Some choose to live elsewhere off campus once they've established themselves as upperclassmen after they've found a job or internship through the university's Career Services office. If you're looking for off-campus housing options near campus but not right next door to it, check out Newark's West Side neighborhood just north of downtown!
Downtown Newark is home to many student housing options; however, if you're looking for something more spacious and affordable than on-campus housing but still want to be close enough for easy access to campus life, then South Campus may be your best option. It's just minutes from Main Street (a major thoroughfare) and offers many amenities such as: a bowling alley, movie theater complex with billiards room and outdoor seating area (open during warmer months), video game arcade/bowling alley combo (open daily after 5pm), food court with several restaurants plus a Subway shop; various shops/services such as grocery store called Weis Markets plus CVS pharmacy; dry cleaners nearby too!
