Popular neighborhoods include "Springfield Heights", located near downtown and known for its expensive houses and mansions; "Evergreen Terrace", home to many single-family homes with backyards that face Lake Springfield; "West Springfield" or simply "The West Side", where most of the poorest people live and some parts are rather dangerous; and finally "Montgomery", home to many apartment buildings as well as sky scrapers such as 555 Lite Lube Tower (the tallest building in Montgomery), 742 Evergreen Terrace (built by Mr. Burns), and 70 State Street (home to dozens of businesses).

The economy in Springfield is largely driven by healthcare jobs at hospitals and clinics located throughout the city. The largest employers are CoxHealth, Mercy Hospital Springfield, Missouri State University-Springfield Campus and Cox Medical Center Branson (formerly Southwest Regional Medical Center).


In terms of culture, there are many annual events held throughout the year including Riverfest which has been held since 1983 on Memorial Day weekend each year. It features live music performances from local bands as well as food vendors along with other attractions like fireworks!
