It has a lively arts scene, great museums and parks, an active nightlife, and plenty of places to shop—it's no wonder the average Somerville resident is less than half-an-hour away from work or school. The city's strong local economy also means that it offers a variety of jobs in fields like healthcare and education.

If you want to live in Somerville, it can be helpful to know which neighborhoods are popular among renters: Davis Square has affordable rents and restaurants galore; East Somerville boasts historic houses built by famous architects; Union Square offers newer apartments near Boston College; Powderhouse Circle has beautiful historic homes at reasonable prices (especially if you're willing to renovate).

The city is also pretty close to Boston (about 15 minutes away), so if you want to go into the big city for some fun or just get groceries there are trains and buses that can take you there.

The local economy is based mostly around education, but there are also some manufacturing jobs in the area too. The main university here is Tufts University, but there are also other colleges nearby that have helped contribute to Somerville's popularity as an area with lots of young people who want to live near their school but still be able to afford rent prices that aren't too high.
