Huntsville
Sam Houston State University is a public four-year Texas university located in Huntsville, Texas. It was founded in 1879 and is the oldest public institution of higher education in the city. The school has an undergraduate student body of 10,856 and an average class size of 20-25 students.
SHSU offers more than 200 degree programs to choose from which makes it one of the most diverse universities in Texas. SHSU also has a large number of non-traditional students who are working on their degrees part time while raising families or going to school full time. In addition to its academic program offerings, SHSU also offers over 40 student organizations including fraternities and sororities as well as over 30 sports teams so there's something for everyone!
Overall, SHSU has many advantages over other four-year universities in the area. Its location is close enough to Houston that students can take advantage of all the city has to offer while still living in a small town setting with less traffic and lower crime rates. In addition, the campus is beautiful with lots of trees and open space which makes it feel like home. Plus there are plenty of opportunities for students who want an education without all of the bells and whistles like football games.
In terms of housing, most students live on campus their first year. After that, many choose to move off campus or stay in the dorms for another year if they want more independence and privacy. Off campus housing is cheaper than living in the dorms, which can be costly.
