Norfolk
Old Dominion University is located in Norfolk, Virginia. The school is known for its large public art collection and excellent engineering program. In particular, the architecture department has been ranked among the best in the country. ODU has an active Greek community, but there are also plenty of options for students who prefer to go out on their own or join a club instead of pledging.
The campus itself is made up mostly of mid-century modern buildings that were built during ODU’s growth spurt after World War II; however, there are some newer facilities like a new business school building and a new library with over 500 computers available to students.
Although you'll find most students hanging out on campus at least once or twice a week, most live off campus rather than paying high rent prices for dorm rooms or apartments on campus. The cost varies depending upon whether you want to live close by or further away from school grounds—but expect average housing costs around $800-$900 per month unless you're willing to put up with less desirable housing options farther away from campus (such as having roommates).
The campus itself is pretty small and easy to navigate, so getting around isn't much of a problem. There are several grocery stores nearby (including the Harris Teeter at Waterside), as well as plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping centers in Norfolk's historic Ghent neighborhood just across the highway from campus.
