Odessa

Odessa, located in the south-western part of Ukraine, is one of the largest cities in Europe and has a population of over 1 million people. The city has a long history dating back to 1846 when Russian Prince Mikhail Vorontsov laid down its foundation stone. Odessa's main attraction is its beautiful architecture that was built during Soviet times. Some interesting buildings include: The Odessa Opera House, The Ballet Theater (opened in 1907), The Drama Theater named after Mikhail Shchepkin (opened in 1856), The Philharmonic Hall (established in 1919).

Odessa is a city steeped in history and culture. The city's main attractions include the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, which was built in 1892 and houses live performances of opera and ballet. You can also visit Odessa Art Museum, which features works from artists such as Picasso, Gauguin, Matisse, Renoir and Kandinsky.

Also popular is Deribasivska Street—known locally as "Deribasovskaya" or simply "Deribasovska"—which offers many shops for browsing for souvenirs or other items you may want to bring home with you after your trip to Odessa. While there are several opportunities for shopping along this street, one particular spot that stands out is an open-air market called Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). It's located right next door to Deribasovskaya Street near Pushkin Boulevard in central Odessa and offers everything from fresh fruit stands selling apples grown on local farms to handcrafted jewelry made by local designers using materials sourced directly from small villages nearby.

The local economy depends largely on its port facilities; however there are many industries within the city including ship repair yards where vessels can be serviced before continuing on their voyages throughout Europe or Asia Minor if they need additional repairs while they're docked here.
