Manchester is the largest city in Northwest England and the second most populous city in the United Kingdom. It is full of modern architecture, museums and galleries, and some of the best restaurants in Europe. Its two main universities—the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University—are ranked among the best in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Oxford Road is one of Manchester's main arteries, with a wide range of shops including John Lewis (similar to Macy's). It also boasts many book stores like Waterstone's, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants along its length.

There are several excellent theaters nearby including The Bridgewater Hall which hosts classical music concerts regularly; it has an orchestra pit that can be raised up from below during performances so that musicians don't have to climb stairs when switching between acts!
