Bologna
Bologna is a beautiful city with plenty to offer. The main attractions include the Piazza Maggiore, the University of Bologna, and the famous towers and walls that surround it. There are lots of popular neighborhoods that are fun to explore, such as Santo Stefano, the Vignola neighborhood on Via Zamboni 13/15 (where you can find some great restaurants), and Montagnola Park.
The local economy is dependent on agriculture (vegetables) as well as manufacturing industries like textiles and chemicals. Because Bologna has been traditionally dominated by left-wing parties for decades now--notably including Berlinguer's PCI--it has become known for being progressive in its politics: there were no street protests during G8 summits despite police presence; same-sex marriage was legalized here in 2016.
The University of Bologna is one of the oldest in the world, and has been ranked as one of the top five universities in Italy.
The city itself is known for its cuisine: there are plenty of delicious restaurants serving traditional dishes like tortellini (a type of pasta), lasagna, and more.
