Houston
Rice University is known for its rigorous academics, but also for its beautiful campus and close-knit community. If you're considering attending Rice, we recommend a major that will allow you to study abroad or in one of their many research labs. The average incoming student has studied abroad at least once before applying to the university, so if this is something you have always wanted to do but have never gotten around to it yet, don't worry! Rice has programs specifically designed for students who want more international experience than what would be possible through a normal academic program.
Rice has over 30 student housing options on campus and even more off campus options within walking distance (or biking distance). Most freshmen do not live on campus because most of their classes are located away from their dorms and they prefer living closer together with other freshman friends. Most upperclassmen choose an apartment or house because it gives them more freedom and privacy than living in a dorm does. There are plenty of resources available throughout the city—such as real estate agencies—to help find affordable housing near campus if needed!
Houston itself is a large city with lots going on all year round so there's always something new happening nearby whether it be concerts downtown or festivals every weekend during warmer months when people are more likely outside enjoying themselves instead of being stuck inside our apartments listening through soundproof walls while their neighbors party next door all night long.
